Why stay in town when you can sleep in the wilderness !
This is a great choice if you are wanting a bit more than just a day hike but don't have the time or inclination for a longer trip.

This trip starts out just like our Root Glacier day hike and we spend a good part of the day exploring the crevasses, moulins, melt streams and canyons of the glacier. But instead of turning around at the end of the day, we just keep going to the other side of the Root Glacier!

We set up camp at a great spot on the top of the lateral moraine of the Root where we enjoy stunning sunsets and inspiring views of the entire valley including the Root Glacier, Stairway Icefall, Bonanza Ridge, Mounts Blackburn, Ahtna, Fireweed.. the list just goes on and on.

This is a great opportunity for spotting bears too! In fact it's one of the best trips we do for seeing bears.

The overnighter is a popular trip for those who are only planning to be in the area for a few days but want the chance to experience a more wilderness setting than is possible on just a day hike.
