Seven Pass Route Alaska hiking - Base camp hiking in Wrangell-St. Elias National Park, McCarthy

We put it all together for you in one nice package.
The perfect package trip for those who will spend a few days in McCarthy and want to optimize the experience. We take care of all the logistics and details so you can concentrate on the fun!

This is also a popular trip for Alaskans and makes a great long-weekend escape.

Day 1
Arrive in McCarthy by late afternoon with plenty of time to settle into your hotel and stretch your legs around McCarthy. Meet with Trek Alaska to review plans for the next few days.

Day 2 (breakfast)
After breakfast at McCarthy Lodge (included with your room) meet with your guide and hop on the shuttle van for a short ride up the hill to the historic town of Kennicott. You'll get a brief tour of the town as we pass through what was once a busy mining operation. Main street Kennicott becomes the Root Glacier Trail and leads us along the top edge of the lateral moraine of the Root.

Along the way you'll learn a bit of the local history as well as some backgorund on how glaciers are formed, advance and eventually retreat. In less than an hour you'll be at the edge of the ice where the guide will give you some brief instructions on how to fasten your crampons and how to walk with them. But don't worry, it's not difficult and no prior experience is needed. And our crampons will work with any type of boot including trail shoes.

We spend the rest of the day exploring the the fascinating world of Glaciers as we examine crevasses, mouilins, ice canyons and melt streams.

Day 3 (breakfast)
We start the day with a half day hike along the Kennicott River and then along the lateral moraine of the Kennicott Glacier. But we're sure to get back to McCarthy by early afternoon to be in time for your flightsee tour! This 50 minute flight will be one of the highlights of your trip. Fly past the amazing Mile High Cliffs, see the Rohn and Regal Glaciers, the Kennicott glacier and it’s tributaries, view the Stairway Icefall and Kennicott Mines.

Day 4 (breakfast)
It's not quite time to hit the road just yet. First it's time for another trip to Kennicott, but this time for a tour of the famous mill building. This guided tour is one of the highlights of a visit to Kennicott. You'll be amazed to learn what life for the miners was like.

After the tour you can catch the shuttle back to Anchorage or make your own planes if you are providing your own transportation.
