Backpacking Checklist
Go back to Trip page

The following is a list of gear and clothing that you will need for an Alaska backpacking trip. Please note that there is no place in McCarthy to purchase equipment, clothing, gear or other supplies. Once out of Anchorage, opportunities to purchase supplies are extremely limited. Plan to purchase all necessary gear before departure.

REI.com is a great online source for just about anything you will need.

There is sometimes a tendency for people to overpack for an Alaska backpacking trip, especially if it is their first time. But summer in Alaska is not as cold as you might expect, and not that different from a summer trip in the Cascades or the Rockies. Remember, you will be carrying all of this gear on your back, so whenever possible, select the lightest option available. Before we set out for the backcountry your guide will review everyone's gear and make recommendations on what to take and what to leave.

*Indicates group gear.
All group gear will be supplied by Trek Alaska. Responsibility for carrying group items will be shared by all participants.
