A fantastic high country route: Skolai Pass to Wolverine - August 17-23
This will be a short one, and the last newsletter until the end of the summer as I'm going to be too busy hiking to type. I wanted to send out an update to mention a few treks that have some spots available and one or two that have been added to the schedule or have dates that have been changed.
Also, after Sunday, June 8 please use our McCarthy phone number: 907.554.4554. Until then you can reach me on my cell phone 907.350.3710. If you're interested in a trip for this summer you should give us a call as soon as possible rather then email as this generally is more efficient all around.

The Summer Off to a Great Start
Just a few days ago I got back from the first backcountry trek of the summer - a four day Donoho Lakes Glacier trek. May is a little early for backcountry trips in Wrangell St. Elias but Donoho is the perfect choice at that time of year.
Kevin and Gosia flew in from New York City to exchange their concrete canyons for some wide open spaces. We had a great time and the weather could not have been better. We had to keep applying sun screen to keep from getting toasted out on the ice.
And we did spend plenty of time on the glaciers including the Kennicott, Root and Gates glaciers. Both Kevin and Gosia have an involvement in photography and media production back home, so we spent a lot of time taking photos on the trip.
The best day was the third when we left our camp set up and spent the day exploring the Gates Glacier with light day packs. The Gates always has lots of cool features to check out.
But the best photos in my opinion, were on the last day as we hiked back on the Kennicott glacier and walked along the top of ice cliffs. It was a long way back that day but it was a good one.
