A fantastic high country route: Pyramid Peak Traverse - July 13-19
The Pyramid Peak trek is one of our top treks and has some of the best high country travel to be found in the park. We get high on three different ridges for amazing views, not only of Pyramid Peak, but of the entire University Range that pokes it's snow capped peaks high into the sky.
Backcountry Video Fun
Last summer I took a few videos on some of our trips. I didn't have a real videocam, just my compact digital camera. But I thought you might enjoy seeing a few of them. I just posted videos yesterday to a few of the trip pages. One of my favorites is on the Seven Pass page and features Scott and Jason taking a plunge into an icy cold alpine lake. They didn't linger. :-)
There is also a really nice interview of Erika and her mom on the Skolai-Wolverine page. Good light on that trip too. On the Wragell/Skyscraper page I like the panoramic of our campsite at Surprise Pass - it's an amazing place to camp.

Skolai Pass to Wolverine
Iceberg Lake
The wind messed with the audio on a few of those, and some are postage stamp sized, but they're fun anyway, so enjoy. Stay tuned though - this summer we'll be getting an actual video camera and shooting a bunch of high quality footage.
A Perennial Favorite: Skolai Pass - July 30 - Aug 2
The Skolai Pass is a trip that just sells itself. This is the ideal spot to spend four to five days exploring at a moderate pace. The range of things to see is just amazing, from the Russell and Hole-in-the-Wall glaciers to Chitistone Pass and more. This area is also a natural corridor for wildlife which includes bear, sheep, goats and caribou.

The Book is now hot off the presses!
In the last newsletter I announced the publication of my book, Hiking Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve by Falcon Guides. The book is now in print and available online. Shipping is by Priority Mail so the book will arrive in just a few days.
Hiking Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park
Also included in the book is overview information on the park including historical background. Above is a link to the companion website for the book. The focus of the site is to show photos of the routes. Several folks who are signed up for treks with us this summer have already ordered the book to get a better idea of what to expect this summer.
