Heading down Hidden Creek Valley: Hidden Creek Traverse

Trips Filling Up

If you're planning to do one of our treks this summer then you should give me a call so we can put you on the calendar. Our July Seven Pass trek is full as well as a few others. Several other trips have only a few spot left.

2008 Scheduled Group Trips Calendar

Those wanting to do a custom trip for just your group are not restricted to these dates of course, but we can only schedule a limited number of treks within any given time period. So give me a call and let's talk about your plans.

New Trips Added

hiking wrangellsWe do a lot of Donoho treks in June when it can be too early to get into the high country. But not everyone is interested in a glacier trek. So we just added a new trip that we have not offered in the past - Hidden Creek Traverse. This is a shorter, moderate, 4-day trek that is perfect if you want an early season trip without glacier travel. The pace is relaxed as we travel the lush green valley of Hidden Creek. We have plenty of time for side trips such as some of the cool waterfalls in the valley. We head up and over a pass before dropping down to the headwaters of the Lakina River.

Also just added to the calendar is an early Seven Pass trip scheduled for June 26 - July 3. There are three spots left for that one. That trip is coming up fast so call me soon if you're interested.

In August we added a Skolai Pass trek for Aug. 13 - 16. This is a top trip for wildlife includgin caribou and Dall sheep spotting as well as unbeatable scenery.

Don't see a trip on the calendar that works for you? Call and let's talk about a custom trip.

We Wrote the Book on Wrangell-St. Elias

In the last newsletter I talked about the quality of our backcountry cuisine as one of the things that sets us apart. Another is our deep knowledge of the backcountry. A company can say they have been in business for decades, but that doesn't help you much if your guide has never been on the route before.

Before I started Trek Alaska I spent an entire summer exploring the backcountry of Wrangell-St. Elias. And each summer I take a solo exploratory trip into a new area in a never-ending search for new trekking routes. I decided there was a need for a guidebook to the park.

hiking wrangellsI am pleased to announce the publication of Hiking Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park and Preserve by Falcon Guides. The book is at the printer now and should be shipping in just a few weeks. The book features descriptions of trips ranging from short nature walks to the most challenging backcountry treks - all of which can be guided by Trek Alaska.

Hiking Alaska's Wrangell-St. Elias National Park

Also included in the book is overview information on Wrangell-St. Elias National Park including historical background. Here is a link to the companion website for the book. The focus of the site is to show photos of the routes. If you pre-order the book now I'll send you a copy with shipping and handling included.
